Initial Consultation
The first step on your journey is the short trip from Barnstaple to Taunton, where you’ll undergo your consultation with Jasper in his office. It’s there that you’ll discuss in detail with Jasper what it is you’re hoping to achieve through surgery, and also whether you are fit enough for surgery. Jasper will then examine your breasts and discuss the options available with you, along with the realistic outcomes that can be achieved with surgery.
Second Consultation
Before you proceed to surgery, you’ll visit Jasper again for a secondary consultation, free of charge. This visit will finalise crucial details like the size and shape of your implants, as well as discussing again in detail any potential complications which may arise from surgery. You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss any issues you may have or questions which you’d like answering.
Procedure Day, What to Expect
Hopping in the car and making the short journey from Barnstaple, you’ll be admitted to the ward at Taunton Nuffield Hospital on the day of your operation. Once there our delightful nurses will talk you through the procedure before you’re placed under general anaesthetic and Jasper can begin work on your agreed procedure.
Going Home
Following your operation, you will go back to the ward to recover before generally being able to return home. If you need to stay overnight, a bed is provided free of charge. Because you can’t drive immediately, it’s recommended you have a friend or family member pick you up. After ten days your dressings will be removed when you visit Jasper in his clinic for a post-op check-up, located in close proximity to Barnstaple. At three months, you’ll visit with Jasper for one final consultation, after which you should be able to resume your regular exercise regime and wear whichever bras you please.
Getting Back to Normal
You’ll be back to your best before you know it. Your first week should be given to rest, but after this you’ll be able to resume light work around the home. It’s recommended that you take around two weeks off work following surgery.
Swelling and lingering pain will gradually subside over 4-6 weeks and after two weeks you should feel comfortable enough to drive.

After this period, Jasper committed to a further five years of specialist surgical training in and around Oxford before settling on his speciality – breast augmentation surgery.
Appointed as a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Taunton & Somerset NHS foundation Trust in 2009, Jasper Gill provides breast reconstruction services in the NHS and cosmetic breast surgery in his private practice at the Somerset Nuffield Hospital, Taunton.
It was then that Jasper travelled to leading breast and reconstructive centres in Milan at the European Institute of Oncology and New York at Memorial Sloan Kettering in order to gain valuable insights which would later inform his practice.
